Located in the village of Lisnaskea , the townland of Castle Balfour Demesne , , and the barony Magherastephana , in Co. Fermanagh , near the west coast of Northern Ireland. After hearing the family stories about the castle since my childhood and first told by my Great Grandmother Elizabeth Balfour - Moore I finally made the journey to see the castlei n person during my first visit to Ireland three years ago. The castle was built around 1618 and was continuously inhabited through the 19th century until an arson based fire destroyed the interior , one person perished in the fire. The perpetrator of the fire was believed to be a member of the Maguire Clan. The village of Lisnaskea developed around the castle after it was built. It was restored and conserved in the 1960's and again in the 1990's. On the ground floor are vaulted rooms and a kitchen with remains of a large fireplace and oven , the main dwelling rooms were at first floor level.
